Not today, 50 million years ago, most of the earth's land was submerged in water. While the prehistoric underwater world is slowly entering the Ice Age; Just then Nummulite got stuck in the terrain. Nummulites are one of the oldest organisms on Earth. During the Cretaceous period, they roamed the world's reservoirs. This prehistoric organism was named Nummulite because of its small spherical structure. Over millions of years, under the influence of a suitable environment, nummulite once turned from an organic state into an inorganic fossil.

Fossils of nummulites still remain in Africa and adjacent regions, bearing witness to the cosmos in limestone layers. Nummulite fossils were found in the Rajshahi region of Bangladesh by Sundarbans archeology researcher and wildlife conservationist Riju Azam of WildTeam. This researcher tells the story behind the discovery and discovery of Nummulite fossils.

Riju Azam told the media, 'From geography, we have come to know that in ancient times this region of ours was basically connected with the continent of Africa in the form of Pangea. When the land was separated over time, we became part of present day Asia. But the nummulite of Pangea remains with us.'

Riju Azam also said, 'An incident in 2014, I took with my colleagues on the way to the ancient Gaur kingdom. While walking, I picked up an object like a white stone. Since childhood, I was a mystery and adventure lover, which is why I used to keep track of various science topics. I was startled by the fact that I took the object in hand. Seeing the tiny black disc on the white stone, it seemed like an unknown fossil.

A researcher said, 'Then the search for its real identity started after returning from Rajshahi. I contacted several paleontologists from the country and abroad. I learned from the paleontologists that the tiny black discs in the white material found are nummulites. which is the fossil of a prehistoric creature. But only knowing the name and identity did not fill my heart. I felt very curious that how the fossil came to Bangladesh? need to know that'

Riju Azam also said, 'I again started data analysis and various searches. I learned that during the Eocene epoch, nummulite was exposed in the limestone layers located in Bogra, Sunamganj and Sylhet districts in the northwestern part of Bangladesh. On investigation, I learned that the pyramids were made of stones containing numerous coins, Nummulite. The ancient Egyptians may have cut the nummulite-bearing stratum into blocks for building. Similarly, hundreds of years ago, the ethnic groups of our region brought this nummulite together with limestone as a raw material for building.

Riju Azam said, 'The presence of nummulite fossils in this land called Bangladesh is a link to that prehistoric episode. It's a reminder that we're not just built on sand. We are also ancient prehistoric.'
