The stalemate over Brexit in British politics does not seem to be ending for now. To resolve the impasse, the staunch pro-Brexit British Prime Minister called for an early election on December 12. On the other hand, the European Union is meeting to decide on delaying the effective date of Brexit.

This month, Boris Johnson reached an agreement with the European Union on a new Brexit deal. However, the agreement was not passed by the British Parliament. That is why he has written a letter to the EU requesting to delay the Brexit process by forcing a law passed last month.

Following the British Prime Minister's request, the EU met in Brussels last Friday local time. Boris Johnson, on the other hand, called an early election after failing to pass his negotiated deal. Parliament is also scheduled to vote on his early election proposal next Monday.

Boris Johnson told the BBC that the European Union is expected to extend the Brexit deadline on October 31. Although he is not at all in favor of extension of time. He said if MPs accepted the election it would only give them time to debate Brexit.

Boris Johnson has sent a letter to opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn about the snap election. There, the prime minister wrote that she would give parliament more time to approve the Brexit deal, but that MPs would also have to back a snap election in December.

The Labor Party has said it will support the election only when there is no risk of Johnson's no-deal Brexit. After the previous British Prime Minister, Theresa May, failed to pass her amended Brexit deal 3 times in Parliament, Boris Johnson became Prime Minister promising to implement Brexit anyway.

Note that under the Fixed-Term Parliament Act of 2011 in the UK, two-thirds of MPs must vote in favor of the election before an election can take place. However, if the agreement fails to pass with a majority vote, the Prime Minister will get the support of two-thirds of the MPs for early elections, so that is what matters now.
