The name of Delhi's Agra is changing now

According to media reports, after Allahabad and Faizabad in India, the name of Agra is also changing. This decision was taken by the government of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to Yogi government's plan, Agra may be renamed Agravan. The state government has approached the experts of Ambedkar University to finalize the decision in this regard.

According to administrative sources there, the history department of Ambedkar University has already been requested to consider the historical importance of this name. Professor Sugam Anand of Ambedkar University's history department said that, 'We have been asked about the history of naming Agra. We have already started working on that. We will submit a report on this very soon.'

Yogi Adityanath's government changed the names of various places after coming to power. Mughalsarai Railway Station has been renamed as Deendayal Upadhyay Station. On the other hand, Allahabad was named Prayagraj. Faizabad district has been renamed as Ayodhya. Now it's Agra's turn. But why is it suddenly proposed to change the name of this ancient city? In this regard, a part of Yogi Sarkar said that many people in the area believe that the real name of this city was Agravan in the past. The Yogi government wants the city to be called by that name again. That is why they resorted to historians. They want to know when and under what conditions Agravan was named Agra.

According to a report in Kolkata's famous newspaper Anandabazar Patrika, the Yogi government is in favor of the name 'Agravan', but many residents of Agra believe that the ancient name of Agra was actually 'Akbarabad.' Many people think that this city was known by this name during the reign of Akbar. But be it Agravan or Akbarabad, Agra's tourist guides are not happy about the name change. They say that the whole world knows this city as 'Agra' because of the Taj Mahal. They fear that the overnight change of name may harm the business.
