This is the first time in Pakistan's history that a military officer has been tried for treason in a civilian court.
It should be noted that Pervez Musharraf ruled Pakistan until 2008 after removing the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif through a military coup in 1999. Then in 2013, the country's former dictator was charged with sedition.
The case filed against him was pending since 2013. Then yesterday (Tuesday) this verdict was given.
Pervez Musharraf has also been accused in several cases related to the imposition of emergency, the illegal dismissal of judges, the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the raid on the Red Mosque.
Later, the country's former military ruler was banned from traveling abroad. However, in 2016, he was allowed to go abroad for treatment. Former Pakistan army chief Pervez Musharraf is currently there.
