The Dhaka Times Desk Founder and Chairman Emeritus Sir Fazle Hasan Abed of BRAC, one of the world's top private development organizations, is going to leave. He will be laid to rest with a funeral at the Army Stadium and burial at the Banani graveyard.
The body of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was kept today (Sunday) from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Army Stadium in Dhaka for public homage. Then his funeral will be done there.
Meanwhile, in memory of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, a condolence book will be opened at BRAC Center in Mohakhali from 2 pm today (Sunday). Also, condolence books will be open at Arang, BRAC Bank, BRAC University tomorrow (Monday) and BRAC regional offices across the country from 10 am to 5 pm tomorrow (Tuesday). These condolence books will be available till January 30 at 5 pm.
On the other hand, the death of Sir Abed, the visionary of BRAC, has been mourned by political leaders, various organizations and dignitaries, and various international circles, including former US President Bill Clinton, former World Bank President Jim Yong Kim. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their grief over the death of Sir Abed on Friday.
In the condolence message, President Abdul Hamid said that Fazle Hasan Abed has made a huge contribution to the socio-economic development of the country by establishing BRAC. His contribution will be remembered with respect by the nation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her condolence message said that the death of a humanitarian like Fazle Hasan Abed is an irreparable loss to the country and the nation.
State Minister for Information and Communication Jonaid Ahmed Palak expressed deep condolences on behalf of his ministry in his condolence message.
Meanwhile, former US President Bill Clinton said that Sir Fazle Hasan Abed's life is a great gift to humanity. Through his 50 years of leadership at BRAC, he has radically changed the lives of millions of people in Bangladesh and beyond. He also changed the world's thinking about development.
Jim Yong Kim, former president of the World Bank, said, "Both the breadth and impact of his work, and the modesty with which he accomplished it, will remain an intensive path in our education."
Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said that Sir Abed started the construction of 10,400 houses in 1972 for the relief and rehabilitation of refugees returned to war-torn Bangladesh. Eventually he raised more money and built 16,000 houses. He still had some money left over with which he started the next project, such a great humanitarian he was. He showed us how to build large and effective organizations without losing sight of the needs of the underprivileged. His work will be our eternal inspiration.
Nobel-winning economists Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo said, how many people are like Sir Fazle Abed? We all became a little smaller in his presence.

Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman said in a condolence message that he was one of the pioneers in poor-friendly private development in the country and outside the country. The world will remember him for inventing many multi-dimensional and cost-effective solutions in development.
UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said that Fazle Hasan Abed will be an inspiring example for us as he expands BRAC's development activities beyond the country's borders to 10 countries in Asia and Africa.
