The Dhaka Times Desk Khushu-Khuju i.e. concentration in namaz is a very important thing in performing namaz. But many worshipers are completely indifferent to this matter. So what is the symbolism?
Imam Ghazali (R.A.) has also discussed this issue in detail in his famous book 'Ihiyaw Ulumiddin'. He described six things, without which one cannot concentrate in prayer.
One. Having 'hujure dil' or concentration in prayer; This is the soul of prayer. I should pray in such a way that Allah can see me. Rasulullah (SAW) said, 'Worship Allah in such a way that you can see Him too. If you can't see, then He is watching you.' (Bukhari, Hadith: 50; Muslim, Hadith: 8)
From the beginning of the prayer to the end, practice holding the imagination that 'Allah is watching me'. In this way, the effort to complete the prayer through practice should be continued. Rasulullah (SAW) said, 'He who performs ablution well, then joins his mind and body and prays two rak'ahs with concentration (another narration states that waswasa has no place in the prayer), Jannah becomes obligatory for him (another In the narration, all his sins are forgiven).' (Nasa'i, Hadith: 151; Bukhari, Hadith: 1934)
Two. Whatever is recited in Namaz, try to recite it with pure pronunciation. It strengthens the inner presence. At least try to understand the meaning of Surah Fatiha and Tasbeeh. Allah Ta'ala says that, 'Recite the Qur'an clearly and slowly.' (Surah: Muzzammil, verse: 4)
Rasulullah (s.a.w.) used to recite each surah with ease. (Muslim, Hadith: 733, Tirmidhi, Hadith: 373)
Three. In prayer one should show 'Tazim' or devotion to Allah. Because Allah Almighty commanded His servants that, 'You stand before Allah humbly.' (Surah: Baqarah, verse: 238) Therefore, slowness should be adopted. On the authority of Abu Qatada (RA), Rasulullah (SAW) said, 'The worst thief is the one who steals while praying.' It was asked, O Messenger of God! How to steal prayers? He said, 'He who does not perform Ruku-Sijdah completely.' (Musnad Ahmad, Mishkat, Hadith: 885)
Four. Stand in prayer and fear Allah Ta'ala. Think, this prayer may be the last prayer of your life. When a person asked Rasulullah (SAW) for a brief advice, he told him, 'When you stand in prayer, pray as if it were the last prayer of your life.' (Ibn Majah, Mishkat, Hadith: 5226)
Five. Expect goodness from Allah through prayer. Almighty Allah says, 'Seek help through patience and prayer.' (Surah: Baqarah, verse: 45)
Have faith, Allah is answering my every prayer. Rasulullah (SAW) said, 'Whenever one of you stands in prayer, he is essentially conversing with his Lord. So let him see how he is conversing.' (Mustadrak Hakeem, Sahihul Jame Hadith: 1538)
Six. In prayer, thinking about your sins and standing before Allah, you should bring 'Haya' or shame to yourself. While standing, like a criminal, the head should be lowered and the gaze fixed on the place of prostration. Because Rasulullah (SAW) used to look at the place of prostration (while standing). (Tafseer Tabari: 9/197)
Following the above six points will create concentration in prayer - Insha'Allah. In a hadith, Rasulullah (s.a.w.) said, 'Whoever, when it is time for prayer, performs ablution beautifully and bows and prostrates beautifully with concentration, this prayer will be expiation for all previous sins; As long as some of the poets indulge in sin. This opportunity is for the rest of his life.' (Muslim, Hadith: 228)
