The Dhaka Times Desk Begging by day and living in a house worth millions of rupees by night - one can be surprised to hear this. But no wonder the story is absolutely true. But the beggar is now at home.
There is a saying, 'Khajlat jai na morle, Ijjat jai na dhule' i.e. one's nature never goes away. Such is the case of begging. And this is the case of Britain. A British court has jailed a professional beggar for begging despite being quite wealthy. The name of this 37-year-old beggar is Simon Wright. He earns about 50000 pounds (about 58 lakh rupees) a year by getting his hands on people! Allegedly against him, the house he goes to sleep in begging all day costs three lakh pounds (three crore 48 lakh taka)!
On the surface, it is seen that Wright is sitting on the high street in Putney wearing torn clothes. The sign on his hand read: Homeless and Hungry.
Sitting like this, he used to receive about 200 pounds worth of gifts from passers-by a day. And with them, he used to return to the house of three hundred thousand pounds at night.
Westminster City Council guards spotted Wright begging in Leicester Square and immediately alerted the police. The police arrested him. That was last month. Magistrates then banned Wright from begging on the streets of London. But despite that ban, he was seen begging again. That is why his address is Srighar.
This is how Simon Wright hides his face when taking pictures
Councilor Nicky Aiken said, “This is extremely audacious. And we have guards to catch such people. Many like him beg, who are not really poor.”
“We would request people not to give money directly to street beggars. If one really wants to donate, it can be done by going to homeless charities. These institutions work to reshape people's lives." News from the Evening Standard.
