Manikchari Mong Rajbari is the ancient abode of the historical Mong Raja in Manikchari upazila, 36 km southwest of Khagrachari district town. The Hmong is one of the small ethnic groups living in the hilly areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts for centuries. In ancient times this ethnic group had a separate autonomous monarchy known as the Mong Dynasty.

১৭৯৬ সালের কথা। তখন খাগড়াছড়ির মানিকছড়ি উপজেলার মহামূনি স্থানে রাজা কংজয় ত্রিপুরা রাজবংশের রাজকন্যাকে বিয়ে করেন। পরবর্তীকালে তিনি ৫০০ ত্রিপুরা পরিবার সঙ্গে নিয়ে সীতাকুণ্ড হতে মানিকছড়িতে আসেন এবং রাজপরিবারের সদস্যদের বসবাসের জন্য মানিকছড়ি মং রাজবাড়ী স্থাপন করেন। আর এভাবেই মানিকছড়িতে কংজয়ের আমল থেকে মং রাজপরিবারের যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিলো। ১৮২৬ সালে রাজা কংজয় ত্রিপুরা মারা যান। তখন তাঁর ছেলে কিওজাই সেন মাত্র ৭ বছর বয়সে চাচা লথ্যানয্যার অভিভাবকত্বে শূন্য রাজসিংহাসনে স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন। পরবর্তীকালে কিওজাই সেনকে ইংরেজ সরকার মং সার্কেলের প্রধান হিসেবে নিযুক্ত করেন। কিওজাই সেনের পর রাজবংশের অন্যান্য বংশধররাও পর্যায়ক্রমে মং সার্কেলের প্রধান হিসেবে নিযুক্ত হওয়ার পর রাজ্য পরিচালনা করতে থাকেন। মং রাজবংশের সপ্তম রাজা মং প্রু সাইনের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বিশেষ অবদানের কারণে তাকে “অনারারি কর্নেল র‍্যাঙ্ক” পদবীতে ভূষিত করা হয়।

A Buddha statue of Vishwa Shanti Mahamuni Raja Buddha Chaitya has been installed near Manikchari Mong Rajbari. After the installation of the Buddhist statue, a fair is organized here on the occasion of the traditional Sangrai festival of the Marmads every year on the 1st of Baisakh. Muhamani Hill also has important structures including the Smriti Math, Nanuma Devi Hall and Raj Jet Ban Buddhist Vihara, an ancient architectural monument belonging to the Mon dynasty. The traditional Hmong palace houses various archeological artifacts including the Hmong king's throne and precious weapons. Many history-loving tourists come from far and wide to visit Manikchari Mong Rajbari to get acquainted with the ancient history and culture of Mong Raja.

Khagrachari can be reached by Saint Martin Hyundai, Hanif, Shyamoli, Econo, Relax and Eagle buses from Gabtali, Syedabad, Uttara and Arambagh in Dhaka. From Khagrachari you can go to Manichari upazila which is 49 km by bus/CNG. Also, Shanti Parivan bus from Dhaka can directly get down at Amtal or Mahamuni next to Khagrachari-Chittagong highway of Manikchari and go to Manikchari Mong Rajbari by rickshaw or on foot.
