Manikchari Mong Rajbari is the ancient abode of the historical Mong Raja in Manikchari upazila, 36 km southwest of Khagrachari district town. The Hmong is one of the small ethnic groups living in the hilly areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts for centuries. In ancient times this ethnic group had a separate autonomous monarchy known as the Mong Dynasty.
About the year 1796. Then King Kangjoy married the princess of Tripura dynasty at Mahamuni place of Manikachari upazila of Khagrachari. Later he came to Manikchari from Sitakunda with 500 Tripura families and established Manikchari Mong Rajbari for the residence of the royal family members. And this is how the journey of the Mong royal family began in Manikchari from the time of Kangjoy. In 1826 King Kangjoy Tripura died. Then his son Kyozai Sen succeeded to the vacant throne under the tutelage of his uncle Lathyanya at the age of 7. Subsequently, Kyozhai Sen was appointed by the British government as the head of the Mong Circle. After Kyozhai Sen, other descendants of the dynasty also continued to rule the kingdom after being appointed as heads of the Mong circle. Mong Pru Sin, the seventh king of the Mong Dynasty, was awarded the title of "Honorary Colonel Rank" for his special contribution to the Liberation War.
A Buddha statue of Vishwa Shanti Mahamuni Raja Buddha Chaitya has been installed near Manikchari Mong Rajbari. After the installation of the Buddhist statue, a fair is organized here on the occasion of the traditional Sangrai festival of the Marmads every year on the 1st of Baisakh. Muhamani Hill also has important structures including the Smriti Math, Nanuma Devi Hall and Raj Jet Ban Buddhist Vihara, an ancient architectural monument belonging to the Mon dynasty. The traditional Hmong palace houses various archeological artifacts including the Hmong king's throne and precious weapons. Khagrachari can be reached by Saint Martin Hyundai, Hanif, Shyamoli, Econo, Relax and Eagle buses from Gabtali, Syedabad, Uttara and Arambagh in Dhaka. From Khagrachari you can go to Manichari upazila which is 49 km by bus/CNG. Also, Shanti Parivan bus from Dhaka can directly get down at Amtal or Mahamuni next to Khagrachari-Chittagong highway of Manikchari and go to Manikchari Mong Rajbari by rickshaw or on foot.
