The Dhaka Times Desk If you want to know about the heritage of Bangladesh, you have to visit Puthia Rajbari in Rajshahi. This royal palace of Puthia is part of the cultural heritage of our country.
An elaborate Shiv Mandir, accompanied by a serene breeze on the bank of a lake. Built on a raised platform, the temple has a main entrance with a wide staircase on the south side. There are 5 arched entrances to the wraparound porch. And the lower part of the pillars of the verandah is richly ornamented and the outer part of the floor is inlaid with sandstone.
The east, west and south walls of the main hall of the temple have one entrance each, where sandstone jambs are used and the jambs are also decorated with floral designs. On either side of each entrance there are standing statues of gods and goddesses made of lime.
There is a ghat to get down to the Dighi located on the north side. This ghat also has a separate staircase for ascending. The pyramid shaped peaks are built on the quadrangular structure. It is notable among other temples located in Puthia.
Rani Bhubanamayi Devi of the Panchani zamindar house built this temple. So this temple is also called Bhubaneswar temple. The Jagannath temple is located a few miles away from the big Shiva temple. Although this temple has no terracotta slabs, its architectural style is very beautiful. It has two entrances on its north and east sides.
The entrance has fine decoration on the sandstone plinth. The room on the second floor is small in size and has an open entrance around it. The four-storied temple, situated within the Puthia Bazar, gradually tapers upwards in the form of a swing.
The Govinda Mandir is situated in the courtyard of the Puthia Panchani Zamindar house. The lower part of the palace can be entered through an ancient gate.
Seeing the plaques also reminds me of Kantji temple. Apart from two two-storied blocks to the north and west of the Kachari Angan in front of the main building of the Rajbari, the rest of the palace is single-storied. Brick, lime-surki, iron and wood were used as materials in the construction of this palace. There are two lofty gateways at the western and eastern ends in front of the Rajbari to give access to the Kachari Angan and the temple courtyard. The best thing about seeing the monuments in Puthiya is that all the monuments are located in close proximity. A visit to any archaeological site will fill your mind with sadness. Antiquities remind us from time to time how fleeting life is.
Rajshahi can be reached from Dhaka by road, rail and air. By road, you can take a bus from Dhaka's Gabtali and Kalyanpur. For this reason there are several bus services including Green Line, Desh Travels, Shyamoli, National Travels and Hanif. The rent will be between 400 and 1000 rupees depending on the category. By rail there are 3 trains namely Silkcity Express, Dhumketu and Padma Express. Silk City Express departs from Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka at 2:40 pm every day except Sunday and 11:10 pm every day except Tuesday and Dhumketu leaves for Rajshahi at 6 am. 350 to 1 thousand 81 taka to be paid depending on the rent category. Apart from this, Rajshahi can also be reached by air from Dhaka's Shahjalal (RA) International Airport by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, United Air and US-Bangla Air.
The distance of Puthia is 34 km from Rajshahi and 18 km from Natore. Take a bus from Rajshahi to Natore or take a local bus and get off at Puthia bus stand on the Rajshahi-Natore highway and walk for 5 to 10 minutes to reach Puthia Rajbari.
