The birthplace of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin is in Saheb Quarter area of Mymensingh district city. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum has been built on the banks of the Brahmaputra river with his timeless paintings and various useful items.
On April 15, 1975 Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin inaugurated this museum through the then Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam with 70 of his paintings with the help of the district administration. Later in 1987 Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum was converted into a two storied building.
Also Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Samrakshala area has been built around the Brahmaputra river by damming Shilpacharya Zainul Udyan. Every morning and evening numerous visitors come to visit Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum and Garden. Currently Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum is being managed by Bangladesh National Museum.
The entry fee for children up to 12 years of age is Tk 10 per person, for ordinary citizens of the country the price is Tk 20 per person, for the citizens of SAARC countries the entry fee is Tk 300 and for foreign nationals of all other countries the price of entry ticket is Tk 500.
The museum is open daily from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm from Saturday to Wednesday from April to September. On the other hand, from October to March, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum can be visited from Saturday to Wednesday every day from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Also the museum can be accessed from 3 PM to 8 PM on every Friday of the week. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum is closed for all on every Thursday of the week.
It takes about 3 hours to go from Dhaka to Mymensingh. Several other bus services including Ena Paribahan, Safe Paribahan, Soukhin ply the Dhaka to Mymensingh route from Mohakhali Bus Terminal in the capital. Also, daily 7 intercity and mail trains leave from Dhaka for Mymensingh, if you want to take these trains, you have to go to Kamalapur or Airport station.
You can go to Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum by Rickshaw, CNG or Easybike from Mymensingh Railway Station or Bus Terminal.
If you go to Mymensingh from Dhaka and surrounding districts, there is an opportunity to go back on the same day. But if you want to stay overnight, you can spend the night at Hotel Amir International, Hotel Mostafiz, Hotel Al Hera, Silver Castle, Hotel Asad, River Palace, Isha Khan and Hotel Nirala located in Mymensingh city.
Good food hotels in Mymensingh include Sarinda, Hotel Khandkar, Seven Eleven, Dhan Sidi, Hotel Minar, Rome Three and Mymensingh Press Club Canteen etc. Also, if you have time, you can try Mymensingh's traditional Malaikari, jaggery sandesh, muktagacha manda and the pure curd of the Agricultural University.
Apart from Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum and Park, if you have enough time, you can also visit Shashi Lodge, Alexander Castle, Myna Island, Mymensingh Museum and Bangladesh Agricultural University located in Mymensingh city.
