For that BTRC has again warned the customers against buying illegal, fake and clone handsets.
The organization has again issued a warning in this regard on February 26 this year after attaching the warning notice of last year. Earlier on July 29 last year, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, before buying a mobile handset, the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) of the city must be verified. Along with this, the receipt should also be taken from the seller. All concerned have been re-instructed to exercise caution in buying and selling mobile handsets.
The notification also informed that from August 1 last year, mobile phones with fake and cloned IMEIs connected to the network of operators will be disconnected from the network through the National Equipment Identity Registrar (NEIR).
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Agency (BTRC) has told how to verify the authenticity. The procedure is - After going to the message option of the mobile phone, write KYD and send the 15-digit IMEI number to 16002 with a space. The return message will tell whether the IMEI number of the mobile handset is in the database of BTRC.
