The Dhaka Times Desk Mobile phone theft is currently on the rise globally, with mobile theft emerging as the largest sector of property crime in the US alone this year. A recent study showed that this year 30 billion dollars worth of mobile phones were stolen in America alone.

According to a report, 101 TP3T users of smart phones have experienced theft of their mobile phones. Almost all mobile phone users have experienced mobile phone theft.
Therefore, New York City Attorney General Schneiderman and many law enforcement agencies in the United States demanded that mobile phone technology companies and manufacturers put measures in phone sets to prevent mobile phone theft. In his words, this technology can be called kill switch, so that after the mobile phone is stolen, it is no longer useful.
Today, when modern smartphones are stolen, misuse of the phone is a cause of concern for users and law enforcement agencies. Currently, mobile phones can be turned on or off, but there is no way to disable the mobile phone remotely. The administration has already urged manufacturers to develop the new technology in response to special demands from US law enforcement officials. Apple is a US Silicon Valley mobile phone maker, Samsung, Including Google Other institutions have also received letters in this regard.
According to Attorney General Schneiderman's proposal, the famous mobile manufacturer Apple is going to add a system to their devices so that if someone tries to stop the mobile tracking program by repeatedly entering the wrong password, the mobile phone will be permanently disabled. Basically, how effective this new technology will be in preventing the theft of Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphones is being tested.
Schneiderman argues, “If you can pawn a stolen credit card, why not a stolen cell phone? It would be great if this concept of kill switch is attached to the mobile phone.
In this regard, many technology experts say otherwise, according to them, simply adding a killer switch can increase the complexity of smartphone users. According to them, using software that has the ability to permanently disable the mobile phone can become a target of mail-ware.
Mobile Security Company Look out Co-founder Mahaffy said they and law enforcement agencies are jointly researching how to properly and safely use the killer switch technology.
Mahafi said, "If the kill switch technology is developed correctly, thousands of mobile phone thefts can be prevented, but if this technology can be hacked by someone, it can disable a large number of mobile sets at once."
Now it is being said that the kill switch can really prevent the theft of mobile phone sets? For now, we will have to wait for a few more days to find out.
