Law Minister Anisul Haque said the decision to release BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who was imprisoned for a long time, was taken on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said this in an emergency press conference at his residence in Gulshan this afternoon (March 24).
The Law Minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the conditional release of Khaleda Zia in consideration of humanitarian aspects. A recommendation has already been made to the Home Ministry in this regard. Khaleda Zia will be released anytime if the Home Ministry accepts the recommendation.
Anisul Haque also said in the press conference that Begum Khaleda Zia's sentence will be suspended on two conditions and she will be released following the legal process. It has been decided to suspend Khaleda Zia's sentence for the next 6 months.
But he cannot go abroad during this period. Law Minister Anisul Haque added that all types of medical services should be received in the country i.e. from one's own home.
Noting that all the sentences of Khaleda Zia will be suspended for the next 6 months, the minister further said that whether this period will be extended or not will be decided depending on the subsequent situation. For now he cannot go outside the country and can get treatment from home.
