The Dhaka Times Desk Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bablu has made the impossible possible by successfully cultivating multa in Hematpur village of Damurhudar in Chuadanga district despite the adverse weather conditions.
Government employee Md Sakhawat Hossain Bablu is currently cultivating malta on 32 bigha land in the same place. He has come to the edge of success after passing the hilly road. There is a possibility of selling goods worth about half a crore rupees this season. Damurhuda Upazila Agriculture Extension Department did not find anyone in the first phase, but now Damurhuda Agriculture Extension Department has extended its hand of cooperation.
Sakhawat Hossain Babul is the son of Abdur Rahman, a teacher of the old neighborhood of Bhagirathpur village of Natipota Uniyan in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district. He is the eldest among two brothers and two sisters.
In early 2013, he bought 20 Bari Malta-1 variety trees from Khulna Agricultural Research Institute for two thousand taka. First planted the trees on 14 khata land. A year after planting the trees, he grafted the trees and made saplings. Then he also leased the land from 5 farmers of the village for 12 years for a bigha of 8 thousand taka per year. After a few years, he leased another 24 bigha land and planted about 4,000 kalam saplings. Currently, Bablu has 32 bigha malta in the same place. Flowering begins two years after planting. At present, the branches of the tree are full of Malta fruits.
Annually 55-70 maunds of malta can be obtained per bigha of land. Which will be sold for about 3.5 lakh taka. If the yield of malt is good, millions of taka worth of malt will be sold annually. The goods are being sold at the rate of Tk 80-100 per kg.
29 lakh taka has been spent so far in 5 years to make the garden of Malta. Maltar trees should be planted on high ground. Organic fertilizers are used more than chemical fertilizers in gardens. Plant seedlings at a distance of 5 to 6 hands. A Malta tree yields 320-380 fruits annually. 9 laborers are working in Malta garden on 250 taka per day.
About Malta cultivation, he said that when I was cultivating Malta in the village, the village elders used to tell me that Babul is a crazy person. The reason is that it is difficult to cultivate paddy, jute and wheat, it is crazy to cultivate goods there. Now everyone is surprised to see his success! He wants to call and listen to crazy stories. Also, planting any tree has become his addiction.
The workers of the garden said that the family's financial instability has also been removed by working in the Malta garden. Previously, there was work at certain times of the year. Due to which there was scarcity in the family.
The grandson UP chairman said about Malta Bagan, after seeing Babul's success, other unemployed educated youths of the village are showing interest in making Malta Bagan. He commented that there will be no unemployment in the village if the youth cultivate the crops.
