The mosque is also known locally as Miyar Masjid or Tentulia Jame Masjid. The original name of the mosque is Tentulia Khan Bahadur Kazi Salamatullah Jame Masjid. From the inscription found on the mosque, it is known that in 1270 Bangalad Zamindar Salamatullah Khan built this mosque after the design of 'Sindur Patti' mosque in Kolkata.

There are 7 doors 9 feet high and 4 feet wide to enter this mosque. Built on 12 pillars with lime surki and the mosque at Gathuni in Chittagong also has 6 domes and 20 towering minarets on its roof.

More than 500 Muslims can pray together inside and outside Tentulia Jama Masjid. There is another historic mosque called Tentulia Shahi Mosque just 100 yards away from this historical Tentulia Jame Mosque which is about one and a half hundred years old.
