The Dhaka Times Desk Amidst the ongoing tension between Tehran and Washington DC, Iran launched a suicide missile attack on its own ship. At least 12 sailors of that ship were killed.
Citing the country's state TV, the news agency AP reported that the suicide incident occurred in the port of Zask, about 1,270 kilometers southeast of Tehran, during the exercise on Sunday.
Local journalists reported that missiles fired from Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) frigate Zamaran accidentally hit their own ship, Konark.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the injured sailors being rescued and taken to hospital in an ambulance.
The name of the attacked ship is Konark. The 47-meter-long Dutch-built ship is capable of launching missiles at sea. However, the country's state media called the suicide attack an 'accident'.
The site of the attack is in the Gulf of Oman, where Iran conducts regular drills and is located next to the Strait of Hormuz.
However, the Iranian media has given very little information about the accidents that happened during the exercises in the region. Because of this very little is known about the actual casualties in these accidents.
