বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের সতর্কবার্তা: করোনার দারিদ্র্যতা ঘুচবে না ২০২১ সালেও 1

The World Bank gave this warning last Tuesday. However, the company also believes that the global economic growth may turn around next year.

The World Bank released the 'Global Economic Prospectus 2020' last Monday. In view of this, in an analysis, the organization said on Tuesday that due to the corona epidemic, 7 to 10 million people will fall victim to extreme poverty this year. The entire world has fallen into the biggest economic recession in the last 80 years due to Corona.

Before the pandemic, the World Bank defined 'extreme poverty' as people living on less than $1.90 (Tk 161) a day. Now it has been further reduced.

However, the World Bank expects the economy to turn around next year. The agency says the global growth rate could be 4 percent next year. But in countries where the poor population is the most, their growth will not increase as much as the proportion of the population. In this, those who have become extremely poor in 2020, their condition will not change until 2021.

The World Bank says that more than one-third of the world's poor live in India, Nigeria and the Republic of Congo. The growth in gross national product per capita of these countries will be India 2.1 percent, Nigeria minus 0.8 percent and Congo minus 0.3 percent. On the other hand, the population growth rate of these countries is 1 percent, 2.6 percent and 3.1 percent respectively. This rate is not enough to reduce the number of poor.

The World Bank has warned that the number of poor people will increase due to the corona epidemic in South Asia, especially in India in the region. The daily income of 17.6 million people worldwide will fall below 3.20 dollars (Tk 271). Two-thirds of these 17.5 million will be Asian people.

Global economic growth will contract to 5.2 percent this year, the World Bank said in its Global Economic Prospectus. The per capita income of emerging and developing countries will further decline.
