The Dhaka Times Desk This time a cave was discovered which is an ancient cave that is 50 million years old. Not only that, different climate exists here!
It is said that fewer people enter this cave than the number of people who join the Mount Everest expedition every year. That cave is so inaccessible. Located on the border of Vietnam and Laos, Hang Song Doong or Song Doong is known as the largest natural cave in the world. Its name in local language means mountain cave or mountain river cave.
This limestone cave in Hong Ha Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam is estimated to be 20 to 50 million years old. This cave, which has been hidden from public eyes for a long time, was discovered in 1991 by a local farmer.
The farmer named Ho Han was wandering deep in the forest in search of rare herbs when it suddenly started to rain. If you are looking for shelter then find this cave.
Then Ho heard the sound of the rushing river. He followed the sound and found this cave. He was surprised because he saw clouds floating inside the cave! But he did not enter the cave out of fear. Seeing that he had to descend a long way to the remote Utrai, he retreated. But then he got out of the forest and lost the way to the cave. Again after 18 years hunting found this cave again. This time he did not forget the location of the cave.
Through him the news of this hidden cave reaches the outside world. This cave in Vietnam is recognized as the largest natural cave in the world. Deer Cave, a natural cave in Malaysia, previously held this title.
British Cave Research explorers explored this cave in Vietnam in 2009. However, Seva's expedition for several days was blocked in front of a huge limestone wall.
Then that wall was named 'Great Wall of Vietnam'. However, the British explorers were not willing to give in to this obstacle. The next year in 2010, the campaign started again. Now they completed the search from one end of the cave to the other.
They said that this cave is about 660 feet high. And 490 feet wide. There are two huge sinkholes or cavities in the roof of this 9 km long cave. Sunlight enters through there. That is why there was no problem in the propagation of plants in the cave.
Then in 2019, it was found that the Song Duong cave in Vietnam is connected with another cave in the area. The cave contains some of the largest stalagmites, or limestone pillars, in the world. The height of the highest stalagmite here is 262 feet.
The only obstacle here is this limestone pillar. Otherwise Boeing 747 could fly through this cave. The cave is also ready to shelter a 40-storey skyscraper.
The exception is that this cave, isolated from the outside world, has its own weather cycle. Clouds form in the 'sky' of the cave. It is as if the life of the cave runs according to its own rules.
Sunlight enters through sinkholes in the roof of the cave. There is no shortage of water vapor as there is a river inside. That is why all the ingredients of cloud formation are stored in this cave.
Tourism started around this cave since 2013. A very limited number of tourists are allowed to enter the cave every year. However, ordinary tourists are discouraged from coming on this tour. The reason is that the mouth of this cave can be reached only after trekking through the deep rain forest for two consecutive days. Moreover, the way inside the cave is also very inaccessible. For this reason, if you are not physically and mentally capable, you are never allowed to visit this cave.
The local administration has plans to introduce a cable car or rope way to Song Doong Cave in the future. However, environmentalists have objected to it. According to them, if the number of tourists increases, the balance of the natural environment inside the cave may also be destroyed.
A statistic says that there has been a huge change in the economy of the local area since tourism started in this cave. Because every year adventurers come here from different parts of the world. However, local environmentalists have agreed to limit the number of tourists.
