On the other hand, Pfizer, another American pharmaceutical giant company, said that the last phase of the experimental application of the corona vaccine developed by them has already started in at least 120 countries around the world. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told the conference that today we are about to participate in a truly historic program in the history of vaccinology.
He added that the United States has never been too quick to move from basic science to large-scale Phase III safety and efficacy testing and vaccine development.
Fauci believes that modern researchers will be able to tell whether the corona vaccine will be effective by next November or December. He says that, however, it is a possibility. But he predicts that it will be known soon.
On the other hand, Pfizer officials said, the company expects to be able to seek approval from the authorities to apply the vaccine to humans by next October.
These two companies involved in the development of vaccines and the United States government say that efforts to develop a vaccine have been advanced at an unprecedented pace, but no concessions have been made regarding its safety. Fauci said there would be no compromise on vaccine safety or scientific standards.
In the US, this vaccine will be administered in two doses a few weeks apart. Later, the researchers concerned will check whether the volunteers who participated in the vaccine trial become infected or ill with the novel corona virus.
Moderna plans to produce 500 million doses a year if the vaccine is successful in Phase III trials.
The US company also said it will produce 1 billion doses by 2021. The US government has approved an additional $472 million to Moderna to support the large-scale testing program.
