The Dhaka Times Desk Digital service provider Robi has launched a unique smartphone financing campaign called 'Phone Loan' to help customers buy smartphones.
According to the campaign, the operator is targeting customers who need collateral-free loans to buy smartphones by using Alternative Credit Scoring (ACS) solutions through blockchain and big data analytics technology. Ravi informed this information in a press release.
Handset loans with convenient EMIs are being offered to eligible Robi and Airtel customers through the 'Phone Loan' campaign. A credit scoring company identifying customers who don't have credit cards by using customers' telco data to ensure privacy and security of information.
According to Robi's notification, the number of 4G technology compatible handsets in Bangladesh is currently 42 percent, which is much less than other countries in the world. The main reason for this is the price of the handset and the low purchasing power of the customers. Due to this, a large part of the population of the country is deprived of the benefits of digital services and digital inequality is also increasing. In most cases, it is not possible for the low-income people in the village to raise the money required to buy a quality smartphone at once. Again they are always deprived of EMI facility through credit card.
Prospective customers who can get a loan to buy the handset will be informed through SMS. Then those customers can also check their eligibility through phone loan app or Robi website. Eligible customers can then purchase the handset of their choice with a one-time down payment from Robi's Walk-in-Center (WIC), R Store, Phone Loan app and website. The remaining amount can be paid in monthly installments equal to 6 to 12 months according to the customer's convenience.
The notification also informed that Robi has undertaken this campaign to bring more customers under digital services and engage them with digital lifestyle. The company has already established itself as the country's largest 4.5G service provider with more than 11,000 4.5G sites. Under the campaign, this operator is also trying to eliminate digital inequality by delivering devices through loans to customers who cannot afford to buy smartphones.
