The Dhaka Times Desk Teletalk has announced to provide internet bandwidth at a nominal price to the students of public and private universities of the country to continue their online education programs.
Students of all universities in the country using BDREN platform managed by University Grants Commission (UGC) will get this facility.
Teletalk has responded to UGC's call to advance online education programs during the Corona crisis, the commission said.
According to the UGC, currently 42 public and 68 private universities in the country are using the BDREN platform. Students can attend classes online through Zoom application. For this students must be covered by Teletalk network.
This facility can be availed in exchange of recharge of 100 taka per month. The recharge amount will be credited to his original account. This amount can also be spent on voice calls and data. The unused amount will be added to the next recharge. However, this facility cannot be availed if the recharge is below Tk 100 and the SIM does not have minimum data.
With the aim that students can use free online education resources, BDREN has written to all mobile operators of the country including Teletalk on July 21. Responding to Bidren's call, Teletalk sent a letter of consent on August 28.
In the letter, Teletalk said that it feels lucky to be involved in this great initiative of Bdiren in this national crisis. Teletalk feels that through this initiative, a large section of students will come under their network during online classes.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah said that this initiative to keep the online education program of students running at the university level during the corona epidemic is a very timely step.
He also thanked Ministry of Education, Department of Posts and Telecommunications and Teletalk for coming forward with this initiative to provide internet bandwidth at nominal cost.
Things to do to prevent Corona virus
