After two decades, extreme poverty is increasing again in the world

The Dhaka Times Desk Due to the Corona situation, the world is going to see the worst poverty in more than two decades this year. A report of the World Bank said that such a situation occurred last in 1998.

The British media BBC reported that the World Bank has warned that the Corona pandemic will push 115 million (11.5 million) people into extreme poverty.

The coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the effects of global conflict and climate change. Because of this, the reduction of poverty has slowed down, said the international organization.

In the World Bank's biennial report on poverty and prosperity, the world faced such a situation for the first time in 1998. At that time, the Asian economic crisis hit the entire world economy.

Before the Corona situation, it was estimated that in 2020 the global extreme poverty rate could fall to 7.9 percent. But this year, between 9.1 and 9.4 percent of the world's population will have a massive impact.

Elsewhere in the report, billionaires earn record amounts amid pandemic. Top people in technology and industry earn the most.

On the other hand, it can be seen that the wealth of the world's richest people increased by 27.5 percent to 10.2 trillion dollars between April and July during the Corona period.
