নবাবগঞ্জের ৪০০ বছরের ঐতিহ্যবাহী ভাঙ্গা মসজিদ 1

The mosque you see is a 400-year-old traditional broken mosque in Nawabganj, near the capital.

This new Bandura is a famous village of Nawabganj upazila near the capital. This 400-year-old Shahi Mosque or Broken Mosque is located in the new Bandura village, just 7 km away from the upazila headquarters.

This three-domed mosque is located on about 50 percent of the land. Out of which the main building is on only two percent of the land. Every day people from far away come to the mosque to worship. However, every Friday, hundreds of men and women gather in this mosque from Nawabganj and neighboring Dohar, Manikganj, Keraniganj and other police stations to offer Friday prayers. There is a separate arrangement for worshiping women.

Various myths have been circulated about the broken mosque at different times. There is a popular saying that a broken mosque is a hidden mosque. They believe that the main building of the mosque has emerged from under the ground. Locals also said that if you vow something after praying in the broken mosque, that hope will be fulfilled by the mercy of Allah. With that belief, the number of guests coming to the mosque is gradually increasing day by day. However, it is assumed that this three-domed mosque was built during the reign of Emperor Jahangir. As such, the nearly 400-year-old mosque stands as a witness of the times of Nawabganj. A 165 feet high minaret has been constructed to enhance the beauty of the mosque. The minaret is the largest minaret in Dhaka South.

About the mosque, the teachers of the area said that in 1610, Islam Khan Chishti was the subedar of Jahangir, the emperor of Mughal dynasty of Delhi in India. For various reasons, Subedar Islam Khan Chishti used to travel from Delhi through Yamuna river by boat, passing through Padma through Pabna district, passing through Manikganj and passing through Ichamati river to Dhaka. At that time, he built the mosque next to the river around 1615 to spend the night and worship. With the change of time, the Ichamati river gradually moved towards the north. There was no settlement around the mosque then. The entire area was forested. In 1880 Hindu zamindars took over all these forest areas. Then the Hindus started cutting the forest to settle there. While cutting the forest, he suddenly saw that there is a mosque house. Some of the upper part of which is broken. Since then, this mosque is called Banga Masjid or Ghaibi Masjid. At that time, various tools for building mosques were also found there. But with time they disappeared. But later this mosque was renovated.
