According to media reports, a Khasi taxi driver was killed in a clash with local villagers during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement in Meghalaya's Ichamati in February this year.

As a result of that incident, it has been alleged that the local Bengalis fled the village out of fear. The police arrested many people for their involvement in the incident. Militant organization HNLC has also threatened Bengalis to leave the state immediately.

Recently there have been renewed complaints that the men of Ichamati are still not allowed to return to the village and do business. Women and children in the village are being tortured.

Recently the Civil Rights Protection Committee and Amara Bengali protested on the Assam-Meghalaya border. Hundreds of people went to Malidahar in Cachar district and raised slogans asking the Meghalaya government for the safety of Bengali speakers.

The Youth Congress held a dharna in Katigara there. The representatives of the Bengali organization complained to the Governor of Meghalaya with a memorandum that the police, judiciary, administration, student organizations, militant organizations have now united against the Bengalis.

After that, KSU put up posters calling all Bengalis in Meghalaya as Bangladeshis. Somewhere it is written, Bangladeshis stop the oppression of Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam and Mizoram.

Sushmita is also warned not to talk about Meghalaya. Sushmita tagged the Prime Minister and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma along with the picture of the poster and wrote in a tweet that the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh is far from being such a banner in Meghalaya!

The state government informed that communal or linguistic differences are never desired by anyone. After learning about the matter, the police removed all the banners.

Meghalaya Home Minister Lakmen Rimbui said on Wednesday that Sushmita Dev is suddenly using Meghalaya's Bengalis to create controversy with an eye on elections in West Bengal and Assam. No one will benefit from this.
