The Dhaka Times Desk 101-year-old woman Edith Koijala was among the first to receive the corona virus vaccine in Germany.
The old woman, who lives in a nursing home in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, was vaccinated last Saturday.
Tobias Kreuzer, manager of the nursing home, told the media that the nursing home in Saxony-Anhalt, in eastern Germany, has 40 residents and 10 staff members. All of them are vaccinated.
Vaccination programs officially began in Germany and the European Union (EU) on Sunday. Just one day before that, they were given Pfizer-Biontech vaccination.
The UK approved the Pfizer-BioEntech vaccine last December 2. Pfizer-BioEntech's vaccine is the first to be approved for use in a Western country.
Vaccination has started in USA, Saudi Arabia, Singapore. However, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the EU's drug regulatory body, has given permission to use the vaccine on December 29.
On December 21, the European Commission announced the start of the vaccination program from December 27. Vaccination center official Imo Kremer told a channel, "For us even one day is very precious."
Hundreds of thousands of vaccines have already been sent to regional health authorities. They also distributed the vaccines to local vaccination centers. Residents and staff of nursing homes aged 80 or older should be vaccinated first.
