Some Hindu organizations in India have complained that the term 'Halal' favors Muslim exporters in business. It was confirmed by various media reports in India that the central government has taken a decision to remove the word 'Halal' soon after such a complaint was made by them.
The decision was announced by the country's Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Such information is available in the news of The Indian Express.
APEDA states that there is no requirement from the Government of India for 'Halal' meat. This was the demand of most importing countries or importers. 'Halal' certification bodies are being recognized directly through the respective importing countries.
Previously, APEDA's 'Red Meat Guidelines' under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated that animals are being slaughtered according to the 'Halal' method as per the demand of Islamic countries. These animals are slaughtered according to the demand of importing or importing countries.
Now a sentence related to 'Halal' has been deleted from the guidelines. In which it was said, 'These animals were being slaughtered according to the 'Halal' system under the supervision of Islamic organizations registered and recognized according to Islamic Sharia. Representatives of registered Islamic organizations issued this 'Halal' certificate to meet the requirements of importing countries.
Sources also said that the change in using the word 'Halal' instead of the old guidelines is considered mandatory for all exporters.
Extremist groups point to APEDA's guidelines as saying the government is promoting 'halal' meat. They termed this change as the first step in the right direction.
Harinder Shikha, one of the campaigners against 'halal' certification, said this was only the first step. We will continue our campaign. 'Halal' meat is forbidden for us Sikhs.
Also, those Sikh leaders met Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri to stop serving 'halal' meat on Air India flights.
