The Dhaka Times Desk The recently deceased famous columnist, researcher, essayist, journalist and writer of Bangladesh Syed Abul Maqsood will be buried after the girl who is staying abroad returns home.
Syed Abul Maqsud's son Nasif Maqsud said, "My sister is currently staying in India, she is returning home." The funeral and burial will be decided only after his return. The body of the deceased is currently kept in the Square Hospital mortuary. Yesterday (Tuesday) evening after 7 o'clock this prominent columnist died on the way to the hospital.
Syed Nasif Maqsud, son of Syed Abul Maqsud, confirmed the matter earlier and said that the father was suffering from fever for 3-4 days. He was taken to Square Hospital when he started having trouble breathing around 6 pm on Tuesday. The doctor on duty said that my father died before being brought to the hospital.
Syed Abul Maqsud has written many books and articles on politics, society, literature and culture of Bangladesh. Also wrote essays on life and work of famous literary and politicians. The number of books written by him is more than forty.
He has researched the lives and works of eminent writers and politicians like Rabindranath Tagore, Syed Waliullah, Buddhadev Bose, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani etc. Syed Abul Maqsood received the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his overall contribution to Bengali literature.
Syed Abul Maqsood's career started in 1964. He started his career as a journalist in the weekly Navyug newspaper edited by M Anisuzzaman. It was a mouthpiece of the Pakistan Socialist Party. Later he worked for a few days in the weekly 'Janata' supported by the National Awami Party. In 1971 he joined Bangladesh News Agency. On March 2, 2008, he left the editorial department of the news agency.
Syed Abul Maqsud was also famous as a writer. His poetry book Bickelbela was published in 1981. In 1987, his second volume of poetry, Dara Shikoh and Other Poems, was published. He wrote many poems on human rights, environment, society and love. Syed Abul Maksud has researched the lives and works of famous politicians and writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Buddhadev Bose, Syed Waliullah, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani etc.
