Historic 7th March: This year's struggle is our liberation struggle, this year's struggle is the struggle for freedom

The Dhaka Times Desk Today is the historic 7th of March. The speech for which Bangabandhu is still remembered by the people of the world, today is the historic 7th March. An unforgettable day in the life of the Bengali nation.

ঐতিহাসিক ৭ই মার্চ: এবারের সংগ্রাম আমাদের মুক্তির সংগ্রাম, এবারের সংগ্রাম স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রাম 1

A nation that has been oppressed by foreigners for thousands of years of tradition and culture, has lost its way, today the disenfranchised Bengali nation finds a clear direction for freedom. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's announcement today was an exceptional, tactful, political foresight and manifestation of wisdom compared to the history of independence of various countries and nations around the world. On this day of 71, Bangabandhu showed the whole nation the path of liberation, the direction of freedom and also gave a direction of guerrilla war.

After Bangabandhu's declaration of a loud voice, 'This time's struggle is our freedom struggle, this time's struggle is freedom's struggle', the freedom-crazed Bengali did not look back after Bangabandhu's declaration of this loud slogan amid the momentous applause of millions of people on the race course ground. In his historic speech, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib gave directions to the entire nation for non-cooperation movement as well as guerilla warfare. The liberation war basically started all over the country after receiving this instruction. It is not only a historical speech but also a document and declaration of the development of Bangladesh. This speech is as persuasive, eloquent and logical as it is oblique, sharp and forceful. In a wonderful and very long presentation, Bangabandhu gave a brief explanation of the history of 23 years of political exploitation and deprivation of Pakistan and the clear position of Bengalis, and ordered to build resistance by highlighting the background of the non-cooperation movement as a form of conflict.

After that momentous announcement, the administration of the government of Pakistan came to a complete standstill. East Bengal broke away from the control of the central government. The entire nation prepares to make maximum sacrifices with whatever they have under the instructions of Bangabandhu. In today's Suhrawardy Udyan (the then Race Course Maidan), his bold instruction in the midst of a stormy crowd moved the hearts of millions of freedom-mad Bengalis. On that day, he not only told the Bengali nation this epic story of liberation, but also gave a skillful instruction for resistance. He said, 'If I am unable to give orders, build forts in every house, fight the enemy with whatever you have. When we have learned to die, then no one can keep us under control, when I have given blood, I will give more blood, I will free the people of this country, inshallah.' After this announcement, loud slogans were raised from the crowd - 'Bear Bengalis take up arms - make Bangladesh independent; Your country is my country- Bangladesh Bangladesh; Compromise not struggle - struggle struggle; Joy Bangla - Joy Bangabandhu.'

Since 1947, the burning fire, the spark of revolution and the dream of freedom, which had been hidden in the heart of the Bengali mind, exploded through the voice of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, the undisputed leader of Bengal. In 1970, Bangabandhu was elected as the president of Awami League. In the December 7 election, East Pakistan won 167 seats out of 169 seats in the National Assembly and 305 seats out of 310 seats in the Provincial Assembly. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was able to overcome the first stage of independence by winning the elections in 1970 and becoming the leader of the parliamentary party of Awami League, the majority party of the whole of Pakistan.

On 3 January 1971, the oath of office of the people's representatives was administered and Bangabandhu was elected as the leader of the parliamentary party. Bhutto came to Dhaka and met with Bangabandhu proposing to form a coalition government with Awami League and the 3-day talks failed. President General Yahya Khan also convened a meeting of the National Assembly on March 3. On February 15, Bhutto announced a boycott of the National Assembly meeting and demanded the transfer of power to the two majority parties in the two provinces. Bangabandhu strongly opposed it. On March 1, Yahya Khan announced the adjournment of the meeting of the National Assembly, and the situation became dire. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's long movement-struggle, prison-tyranny and life of great self-sacrifice passed through many setbacks and he alone achieved irresistible political strategy, infinite courage, unforgettable and firm leadership and eloquence and sky-high popularity. The final product of this long political achievement of Bangabandhu was the historic speech of March 7 and the indirect declaration of independence. As the leader of the majority party in the Pakistan state structure, he gave many pressures, proposals, suggestions and the direction he gave in his speech on 7th March is unprecedented in the history of this sub-continent and even in the history of the whole world. Many compare it to the historic 'Gettysburg Speech' of Abraham Lincoln, the great hero of the American nation. Through the 19-minute speech of that day, the great poet of the epic called Bangladesh, Bangabandhu, the great hero of Bengali liberation, planted the seeds of freedom in the hearts of Bengalis, through the bloody armed struggle of 9 months, those seeds of that day sprouted and blossomed in the blood flow. We got our much desired freedom.

At the final stage of the non-cooperation movement started on March 1 by the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when the Pakistani invading forces attacked the unarmed Bengalis, he broke the chains of subjugation and announced the independence of Bangladesh on March 26, 1971. Victory was achieved on December 16, 1971 through a 9-month heroic armed liberation war by the entire Bengali nation under the command of Bangabandhu. Today we are proud citizens of independent sovereign Bangladesh.
