The Dhaka Times Desk Today, January 10, is the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On this day in 1972, after being released from Pakistan's captivity, he first returned to the soil of newly independent Bangladesh.
Before this, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was released after 9 months of imprisonment in Pakistan's Mianwali Jail on January 8. Then he went to London from Pakistan. Then Bangabandhu returned to Dhaka via Delhi.
On the occasion of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, Awami League and various affiliated organizations of the party have taken various programs. These programs include hoisting of party and national flags at the party's central office, Bangabandhu Bhavan and party offices across the country, offering wreaths at the portrait of the father of the nation and discussion meetings.
On the occasion of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered the message.
Bangabandhu's call for independence was originally given by a historic speech on March 7, 1971 at the Race Course Maidan, and then in the early hours of March 26, Bangabandhu declared the independence of Bangladesh and called upon the people of all walks of life to jump into the liberation war. Immediately after the declaration of independence, Bangabandhu was arrested on the orders of the then military ruler of Pakistan, General Yahya Khan, and was detained in a West Pakistan prison.
On 16 December 1971, the final victory was achieved after 9 months of bloody war against the Pakistani troops, but on 10 January, Bangabandhu's homecoming gave the nation a full taste of victory. So this day is seen as an important day in the history of Bangladesh.
