Researchers were recently excavating an archaeological site in southwestern China's Sichuan Province. Researchers found more than five hundred ancient artefacts during the excavation of the site called 'Songxingdui' in Chengdu. Among them, a mask made of gold from 3 thousand years ago has managed to catch everyone's attention.
It is known that this 'Songxingdui' region belonged to the 'Shu' kingdom till 316 BC. The kingdom extended across the Han River basin in the western Sichuan valley. The state was also famous for its art.
According to the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China, the gold mask found by archaeologists is 3,000 years old. 84 percent of that mask is gold. It weighs 280 grams. Archaeologists say, 'At that time, people used to wear masks made of gold on various occasions.'
It should be noted that since the twenties of the last century, more than 50,000 ancient artifacts have been found in this region. Earlier in 1986, archeologists found bronze masks by excavating here.
