Naval police rescue operations are underway. According to Kanthalbari Naval Police sources, a speedboat loaded with passengers was going towards Banglabazar Ghat from Shimulia Ghat today (Monday) around 7:30 AM. At that time, the speedboat collided with a bulkhead anchored in the river near Kanthalbari Ghat.
Kanthalbari Naval Police immediately started rescue work after getting the news. So far they have recovered the bodies of 26 people. Rescue operations are still underway as more are suspected to be missing.
Note that public transport is closed due to the lockdown. Therefore, along with the launch, speedboats are also supposed to be closed. However, some unscrupulous bod drivers are managing the authorities and illegally ferrying passengers.
