The Dhaka Times Desk South African President Cyril Ramaphosa breaks Iftar with Muslims in Athlone, Cape Town. He was also seen participating in Maghrib prayers after Iftar on the evening of May 6.
According to Anadolu news, the South African president also acknowledged the contribution of Muslims in the movement against apartheid at this iftar of the Muslim community. Because the abolition of apartheid has brought democracy back to the country.
Addressing the Muslims, President Ramaphosa said, I know the anti-apartheid movement had to pay a heavy price for this community. But still they are standing tall.
Many Muslims also participated in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Among them, Ahmed Khatrada served jail time with Nelson Mandela. Lawyer Dullah Omar was also active in this movement.
It is to be noted that from 1994 till his death in 2004, he served as a member of the cabinet. 3 percent of the country's 60 million population are Muslims.
President Ramaphosa also recalled Muslims coming forward to help the poor and helpless people. In addition, President Ramaphosa also highlighted the issue of increasing the awareness of Muslims to prevent the corona virus.
