China has urged UN member states not to attend a meeting next week hosted by Germany, the United States and Britain on the crackdown on Uyghur Muslims and other minorities in Xinjiang. Reuters gave this information citing a note found in this regard.
In that note, China's UN mission said, 'This is basically a politically motivated event. We request your mission not to participate in this anti-Chinese event.'
On May 12, representatives of the United States, United Kingdom and Britain will sit in a virtual conference at the United Nations. The purpose of the meeting is to explore ways in which the United Nations, its member states and civil society can assist the Uighur Muslim minority in Xinjiang in addressing human rights violations.
The United States has previously accused China of committing "genocide and crimes against humanity" against the Uighur Muslim minority. On March 30, the United States Department of State presented this information in its annual report on the global human rights situation.
It should be noted that the Uyghur community is an ethnic group of Turkish origin. Living in the Tarim Valley area in the southwest of China's largest province, Xinjiang, the Uyghurs are one of the country's 56 officially recognized ethnic minority groups.
Recently, the British media BBC reported that they have also found very convincing evidence of the Chinese government's genocide against the Uyghur community. In addition to forcing Uyghurs to work, they also found evidence of systematic rape and torture of Uyghur women in detention camps.
