Despite admitting guilt, the end was not saved. Nafees 30 years sentence

The Dhaka Times Desk Nafees was not spared even after admitting his guilt. Bangladeshi Qazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for plotting to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank building in New York.

On August 9, the federal court in Manhattan made the decision. Even though Nasif pleaded guilty and apologized to the judge, he was sentenced to prison.

Before announcing the verdict, Nafis said to the judge, 'I am ashamed. I lost everything. I tried to do a terrible thing. I alone am responsible for what I have done. Please forgive me.' Nafees also apologized to the judge, the United States, the people of New York City and the parents.

It is alleged that Nafis got involved in terrorism while studying in a private university in Bangladesh. He went to the US mainly for the purpose of 'Jihad'. However, the lawyers of both sides think that personal problems have also played an important role in this activity.

According to media reports, Nafis wrote a five-page letter to Amon before the verdict was announced by Judge Carol Bagley. He mentioned in that letter that extremists do not believe in Islam.

It should be noted that the New York police filed charges against Nafis in October last year for planning to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank building with the help of Al Qaeda. He was charged with attempted use of weapons of mass destruction. On the advice of lawyers, Nafis pleaded guilty in February this year and was arrested. Lawyers thought a guilty plea would reduce the sentence. But through this judgment, that idea was proved false.
