The Dhaka Times Desk The longest divorce case in British history has ended after a long 5-year legal battle. In the end, Russian billionaire Farkhad Akhmadev came to an agreement with his ex-wife for a record 186 million dollars.
Since 2016, oil and gas businessman Farkhad has been fighting a divorce case with his wife Tatiana Akhmedova. It has been cited as the largest post-divorce debt settlement in legal history.
The two met for the first time in 1989. Moved to London after 4 years of love. They announced their divorce in 2014.
A London court in 2017 asked Akhmedov to pay Tk 5,130 million in a divorce case. Apart from this, the court also ordered the suspension of its transactions worldwide. However, Akhmedov challenged this verdict. He claimed that he was being asked to pay so much money unreasonably. He finally managed to reach a compromise recently.
According to Forbes, Akhmedov's wealth is currently 1.4 billion US dollars. Tatiana Akhmadova has also accepted a divorce settlement offering cash and ownership of artworks, a spokesman for Akhmadov said in a statement. This amount is close to one-third of what the court had awarded. The agreement ended a long and bitter legal battle.
One of the sticking points in the separation agreement was the sharing of ownership of the 115-metre (380 ft) long, nine-deck luxury superyacht Luna. Now, however, the ownership of the yacht remained with Farkhad Akhmadov. Tatiana is going to get 18.6 million dollars. However, Tatiana's spokesperson refused to comment on the matter.
