The Dhaka Times Desk Renowned writer, journalist and columnist Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury has made an appeal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina regarding the currently discussed actress Parimani. He sent the application to the media last Monday.
In the application, this journalist, a veteran resident of London, wrote that this is not his only request to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. An appeal to the civil society to be aware that the administration, a wealthy group and media groups are conspiring to destroy a 28-year-old girl completely.
He also wrote, 'Two or four RAB or policemen should have gone to arrest Parimani, the arrangements made there seemed to be a raid to arrest a dangerous dacoit. Since the arrest, one scandal after another is being spread against Parimani. It is understood that these are being done purposefully from some quarters. That is, judgment before judgment. A famous dramatist like Chayanika Chowdhury has been picked up from the streets unnecessarily and attempts have been made to smear Kalima on her character. These are abuses of power. If they continue, the freedom of the citizens of the country will be endangered.
Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury also wrote, 'What is the secret of the fact that the accused got bail easily after the boat club incident? Shouldn't it be difficult to understand that this powerful group subjugates a section of the administration that orchestrates these events? Then media publicity. Citibank MD Masroor Arefin's statement that these promotions are not true. Arefin sahib's statement against Parimani with a car worth Tk 3.5 crore has been proved false.'
Referring to the campaign surrounding Parimani's personal relationship, this veteran journalist also wrote, 'Parimani is a heroine. She can have relationship with many men. What crime is that? Sabina asks, who will take responsibility for the way the life of a promising young woman in the country's film world has been destroyed before the trial in the court? No one should have any objection if Parimani is found guilty and punished in a court of law. But the way a young woman is being detained and harassed and unproven propaganda is being spread against her is not only an insult to the women's society but also an insult to humanity. A terrible clampdown on our civil liberties.'
Calling on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury wrote that, 'Women's empowerment has started in Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina's regime. That is why I am appealing to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to intervene in the case of Parimani. Do not ask to protect him from justice. Please save him from hyena clan. What is the guarantee that the treatment being done to Parimani will not be done to another citizen of the country?'
Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury called upon the intellectuals and said, 'I appeal to the conscious intellectuals of the country to protest this harassment of Parimani. Please don't be silent. Condemned the torture on Parimani. Request to the media, they should stand for the oppressed. Do not side with oppressive groups.'
