On August 15, 1975, one of the worst murders in history took place. Bangabandhu and his family were killed by some misguided army officers.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were brutally killed by assassins on that day. Today is National Day of Mourning. Today the nation is celebrating this day with due respect and dignity.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, President Md. Abdul Hamid gave separate messages on the occasion of National Mourning Day. Today is a public holiday. As the situation is not favorable due to Corona, Awami League and its organizations and various social and cultural organizations have organized discussion meetings, mourning rallies and various programs domestically to commemorate this day.
The killing of Bangabandhu in his family was one of the most heinous crimes in the history of humanity. It was proved in court that it was a premeditated murder, a criminal offense and they were tried according to the criminal law. Some of the accused have been hanged and some are still absconding abroad. Bringing them to the country and enforcing the judgment is under process. The tragedy of 1975 still haunts the nation.
On that dark night of August 15, 1975, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangabandhu's wife Sheikh Fazilatunnessa, son Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Kamal's wife Sultana Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, Jamal's wife Rozi Jamal, Sheikh Russell, Bangabandhu's brother Sheikh Nasser, SB officer Siddiqur Rahman, Colonel Jamil, Army member Syed Mahbubul Haque, around the same time assassins attacked the residence of Jubo League leader Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani, Bangabandhu's nephew, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani, his concubine Arju Mani, Abdur Rab, a sister-in-law of Bangabandhu. Serniabat and his daughter Bebi, son Arif Serniabat, grandson Sukant Babu, Sajib Serniabat, son of Abdur Rob Serniabat's elder brother, and a relative, Bentu Khan, attacked Serniat's house. Today, the nation is remembering this mourning day with deep mourning and respect.
Bangabandhu's call for independence in his historic speech at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 7, 1971 was an unforgettable declaration in the continuation of the long 24-year movement and struggle against Pakistani rule and exploitation. On that day, his thunderous voice uttered - 'This time's struggle is our freedom struggle, this time's struggle is freedom's struggle', 7 crore oppressed Bengalis jumped into the freedom war with this immortal call. Bengalis became a nation of fighters and heroes in that magical declaration.
After the worst massacre in history on the night of March 25, 1971, in the early hours of March 26, the nation heard an immortal declaration of great freedom in the voice of Bangabandhu. The Pakistani occupation forces arrested Bangabandhu from his Dhanmondi residence that night. After that, he had to be imprisoned in Pakistan's largest prison for 9 months of the Great War of Liberation. The liberation war was going on at his call. Akutobhaya, this great leader, did not compromise on the issue of freedom despite the news of his death in captivity. The country became independent on 16 December 1971. At the end of the liberation war, Pakistan was forced to return the beloved leader of Bengali. Bangabandhu returned to the independent Bangladesh of his dream on January 10, 1972 as a hero.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman involved the people of the country in the process of development by keeping himself engaged in the work of building the war-torn country. He had a firm belief that the people of his country would never forget his sacrifices and contributions, and would never be ungrateful. Bangabandhu, the head of state of the newly formed Bangladesh, therefore lived in the common house on road number 32 in Dhanmondi instead of the official residence. Where assassins brutally killed the family on August 15, 1975.
