A former MP of Pabna filed this case under Digital Act against Pabna Press Club General Secretary Saikat Afroz Asad. Soon after filing the case, Pabna journalists took to the streets in protest. They have been holding various programs in Pabna city demanding the withdrawal of this case. Now the movement is not limited to Pabna city only.
It has also spread in upazilas. There is no word on whether this case will be resolved, but if the case continues, there is a fear that the movement will spread across the country. A few days ago, a local journalist reported the quality of food supplied to Dinajpur Sadar Hospital. Based on this news, the hospital authorities filed a case against the journalist under the Digital Act, and the police arrested the journalist. The journalist has to go to jail. Before that, Kajal Mahmud, a Dhaka newspaper journalist, was finally found at the Benapole border in Jessore after missing for a long time. Journalist Kajal is now in jail. Local influential politicians are said to be behind journalist Kajol's disappearance and imprisonment. Meanwhile, the incident of harassment of journalist Rozina Khatun by an official in the secretariat has come into wide discussion across the country.
Incidents of torture of journalists have been happening during all governments. Journalists have trouble with influential bureaucrats or politicians of the ruling government. The main task of journalists is to highlight the inconsistencies of society. In the current social and political context, some influential people want to own the money. The path to that meaning is sometimes easy and sometimes tumultuous. When the journalists report the news in this case, this influential circle gets angry. Sometimes in the darkness of the night, the cadres created by themselves attack those journalists. Sometimes they file a case in the police station. After the introduction of the digital law by the government, this influential group came forward to harass journalists.

All these influential people are harming the state on one hand and destroying the image of the party on the other. Many times the policy makers of the state cannot keep track of the leaders below. The media is well aware of them. From time to time, the media brings their character to the public. It brings good for the party, state, society and family. In this country, the media is as vocal against the military government and fundamentalists as it was before. This is why newspapers are called the mirror of society.
It can never be desirable to ignore the press or create animosity with the press. Newspapers are respected not only in Bangladesh but in all countries of the world. Why would this country be an exception?
But one thing needs to be said because not every print or electronic media in the country is doing their duty impartially and honestly.
There are many media whose objective is not journalism, but behind journalism are business objectives. Many are busy singing the praises of the government in exchange for special privileges from the umbrella of the government. Again, among the journalists there are unethical yellow journalists. Their influence in this country is not less. The main function of the newspaper should be to speak for the people as well as the state. Helping the state achieve its goals with a touch of modernity. No one wants to interfere with it.
