The Dhaka Times Desk Many women of the country are protesting for their rights after the Taliban formed a new government in Afghanistan. At least two Afghan journalists were severely beaten by Taliban members for covering the protests.
Photos of two journalists injured in Taliban beating have already spread on social media. Many have criticized it.
Social media Twitter has also published pictures of journalists being tortured by the Taliban. One of which was posted by Los Angeles Times foreign affairs reporter Marcus Yam. The other was published by the Afghan news media Itilatroz. The picture posted by Yam shows two underwear-clad journalists with blunt force trauma to their buttocks.
Etilatroz also posted a similar picture. The two journalists who were tortured by the Taliban are known to be workers of the Afghan news media, Takir.
Itilatroz reports that the two journalists, Darayabi and Nematullah Naqdi, went to the Karat-e-Char area in the western part of Kabul last Wednesday to collect news about the women's anti-Taliban protest. Later, Taliban members captured them and tortured them like this.
``I thought they were going to kill me,'' Naqdi told the Los Angeles Times. They were even mocking us.'
Itilatroz also reported that the Taliban kidnapped three journalists. These journalists include the local head of the European news outlet Euronews. They were later released unharmed.
Itilatroz report also said that the Taliban arrested Tolo News camera person Waheed Ahmadi and Ariana News camera person Shamim.
Jair Yad Khan, a journalist with the Afghan media outlet TOLO News, is believed to have been killed by the Taliban last month. Earlier, the Taliban killed a Deutsche Welle journalist's relative.
