In videos that went viral on social media, the girls were seen walking naked carrying a wooden raft on their shoulders, with a frog tied to it. Locals believe that this ritual will appease the 'Rain God' and result in rain again in the area.
India's National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is shaken after the incident came to the public. A report on the incident has also been sought from Damo district authorities.
Damor District Superintendent of Police DR Tenyar said that the local custom of some girls walking around naked in anticipation of rain has come to the attention of the police.
He said, however, no formal complaint has been received regarding this ritual. Action will be taken if there is a complaint that the girls were forcibly stripped.
Damor District Collector S Krishna Chaitanya said the parents of the 6 girls at the front of the procession had consented to their children walking in the procession undressed and even participated in the procession.
A woman who took part in the procession told the Indian news agency PTI, "We believe that if we do this, rain will come.
As the procession stops in front of each house in the village, the children collect food grains from those houses; These food grains were later given to the community kitchen of a local temple.
