The World Food Program has warned that extreme hunger is spreading in Afghanistan. Many families are taking extreme measures to ensure that Afghan children do not go hungry.
Anthea Webb, deputy regional director of the World Food Program, said that in a telephone survey conducted from August 21 to September 5 in all 34 provinces of the country, 93 percent of households do not have enough food.
He also said that many families have faced extreme disaster. They are also taking negative steps to survive. These measures include skipping one meal, feeding children without feeding adults. The amount of food is also being reduced.
Webb said millions of people need food supplies before winter arrives. The roads in Afghanistan will be cut off by snow. Before that, life-saving support should be given.
