The Dhaka Times Desk Hundreds of people in the United States have been reported sickened by an outbreak of salmonella bacteria caused by raw onions.
According to a US media report on Friday, hundreds of people in at least 37 states of the United States have become ill due to the outbreak of this bacteria.
It is known that 652 people fell ill between May 31 and September 30. 129 of them have been treated in hospital again. However, no death has been reported so far.
The country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the number of cases could be higher. Because the administration does not know about many affected people.
As far as the symptoms are concerned, the sufferers of this disease have symptoms like diarrhoea, fever and abdominal pain. These symptoms usually appear within 6 hours to 6 days of eating food containing the bacteria. Without any specific treatment, the affected person usually recovers within 4 to 7 days. However, it has been warned that children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems may be at risk of contracting the bacteria.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises against consuming unflavored red, white and yellow onions to avoid salmonella infection in the country.
