According to a news report, the US Patent and Trademark Office also accepted the patent application last week. There is also a separate screen on the edge of a device in this sketch.
When the device is folded, it looks like a traditional smartphone. It will look similar to Surface Duo in wide profile. However, no additional information has been released by Microsoft. It doesn't even say how it will work.
Samsung is also rumored to be bringing its own tri-fold device. TCL showcased such a concept device at MWC Barcelona last March.
