The Dhaka Times Desk 605 prisoners have become hafez by memorizing the Holy Quran from the prison in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Jail authorities are praising this incident.
This unique precedent has been established under their direct cooperation and supervision. Jail authorities said it took the convicts two years to memorize the entire Quran.
Recently, the UAE government has undertaken various projects to rehabilitate prisoners. Which includes religious education, sports and training in various professions. A special part of religious education includes the matter of the Qur'an being memorized. 605 prisoners succeeded in training in that part.
It is known that the General Department of Punishment and Correctional Institution of Dubai Police also encourages in various ways to read and learn the Holy Qur'an in the religious education program. As a part of which 605 prisoners got the opportunity to memorize Quran.
Moreover, 275 people benefited from this program in 2021 and 333 people in 2020. The government of the country arranges various programs to rehabilitate the prisoners in Dubai. In continuation of this, various programs on religion, sports and professional subjects have been included under the education and training programme.
According to media reports, with the help of Dubai's Educational Zone, local and various international colleges, the prisoners complete their educational programs and regularly provide them with all the latest published books.
The UAE also offers various courses and programs for prisoners. Among which the notable courses are Community Based Enterprise Art Course, Graphic Design, Film Making, English Language, Chinese Language, Anger Management, Challenges and Paths to Success, Creative Course etc.
Earlier in 2020, 170 prisoners benefited from the scientific course and 191 prisoners benefited from the education course.
In this regard, Major General Ali Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punishment and Correctional Institution of Dubai Police, said that through these programs it is possible to develop the skills and abilities of prisoners, rehabilitate and strengthen their religious beliefs. The main objective of these programs is to deal with various psychological and emotional problems and also to help in removing the barriers of fear and ambivalence of the prisoners after their release, so that the prisoners can easily re-enter the mainstream of society.
