The lawyer of the family of the prisoner who died in the jail made this complaint. According to a BBC report, the man named LaShawn Thompson was charged with a very minor crime and sent to prison. Officials judged him mentally ill and sent him to the psychiatric wing of the Fulton County Jail.
Family attorney Michael D. Harper released Thompson's photo. It shows Thompson's entire body covered in scabs. Lawyer Michael demanded a criminal investigation into the incident. While talking to reporters, he said that a case is under trial in this incident.
"Thompson was found dead in a filthy prison cell after being eaten alive by insects and bedbugs," Harper said in a statement. The prison in which Thompson is kept was not even suitable for sick animals. He didn't even deserve it.'
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's report, Thompson was found unconscious in his jail cell on Sept. 19 of last year, three months after his arrest. Local police and medical personnel tried to save him but failed. He was later pronounced dead, according to a report in USA Today.
Attorney Harper said jail records show that detention officers and medical staff noticed Thompson's condition deteriorating. But they did not take any steps to help him.
