The Dhaka Times Desk Boys and girls of all ages will be able to go to school in Afghanistan from next March. The Taliban government announced to open schools for all from the first day of the new academic year (March 21).
Recently, the head of a special delegation of the United States, Thomas West, told BBC Pashto in an interview that the United States and the international community would pay teachers if the Taliban allowed girls to go to school. Analysts claim that the Afghan government has decided to open educational institutions for all after the US representative's comments.
In this regard, Afghan educationist Khalil Ahmed Kanjo said, "If the demands of the international community to reopen schools are not considered, we will soon see the fall of this government."
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Education denied external pressure, telling local Tolo News that schools are temporarily closed. All educational institutions will be opened for everyone next spring.
Aziz Ahmed Rayan, the publication and public relations officer of the country's Ministry of Education, said, "Even if the United States or the international community does not pay the salaries of the teachers, we will open the school next spring." Our decision has nothing to do with the needs of the United States and the international community.'
Ahmad Takbi, a spokesman for the country's Ministry of Higher Education, said, "The ministry is also trying to open universities quickly."
It should be noted that the extremist group Taliban closed the country's educational institutions after seizing the power of Afghanistan by occupying the capital Kabul on August 15 last year. In particular, the Taliban banned girls from grades 7 to 12 from going to school. However, the international community has been pressuring the Taliban government to open educational institutions for all. There has been pressure to open educational institutions within the country as well.
