The Dhaka Times Desk If we look at the long history of Apple, we can see that their products such as iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad are all preceded by the letter I.

But what is a bit surprising is why it is Apple Watch when it comes to their watches. Do they preserve that tradition in their watches? Why didn't they give iwatch? Is there any reason behind this?
In an interview with Bloomberg a few days ago, Tim Cook was asked why his watch was called the Apple Watch instead of the iWatch, but there was no specific answer. But does the new CEO, Tim Cook, have a hand in this naming?
No! But this is not the case, the CEO has no authority to name specific products of Apple. The main reason for Apple's watch to be called Apple Watch is due to trademark complications! While Apple's product was in development, they had to legally fight with several companies over the iWatch name.
A company called OMG Electronics in the United States claims that they have already trademarked the name I Watch. Similarly, a company based in Ireland called Pro Bendz also uses iWatch for their watches which is applicable to all countries of the European Union. On the other hand, a Chinese company also uses this name. But such complications were nothing new for Apple. Earlier, they had to pay 60 million dollars to a Chinese company to take the iPad name. Because a Chinese company called Proview had already trademarked the name in their own name. Again, Cisco trademarked the iPhone name before Apple. However, Cisco has not disclosed how much money Apple has paid yet.
Realizing that future trademark complications could arise, Apple sought to trademark the 'i' prefix in 2010 but was unable to do so after going against the courts. The court ruled that no particular company could use the 'I' prefix. Source: Ittefaq.
