What the research says: At what age does sperm count peak?

The Dhaka Times Desk For a long time, researchers thought that smoking, drinking alcohol, environmental pollution, as well as several factors were behind the decrease in sperm count. But this time, another study revealed the reason for this.

Research shows that men's sperm count has been steadily declining for the past 40 years. However, researchers are still not entirely sure why this is happening. From smoking, drinking to environmental pollution, researchers were thinking that there could be multiple reasons behind the decrease in sperm count. Now the problem of obesity has been added to that list.

A group of researchers from the University of Utah in America claimed that the problem of obesity can significantly reduce the number of sperm in men. Especially: This problem increases after 40 years. This problem is more prevalent in people over 60 years of age. Researchers have also claimed that the sperm count is at its peak from the age of 17 to 40 years.

In this study, scientists examined about 40,000 sperm cells. Testing RNA, the genetic material from sperm cells, shows how well those cells are actually capable of producing sperm. Research results show that those with a 'body mass index' or 'BMI' of 30 or more have impaired sperm production. Scientists fear that obesity may reduce the secretion of the sex hormone testosterone. Due to which the sperm production of men can be disrupted. However, the researchers said that more detailed research is needed on this subject. Source: Anandabazar Patrika.
