The Dhaka Times Desk An Indian couple has filed a case against their son. The couple asked for compensation of 6.5 million US dollars or 50 million Indian rupees if they could not give birth to grandchildren within a year!
According to a report in the Times of India, Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad said that they have almost become destitute after spending their savings to raise and educate their pilot son. A lot of money was also spent on the grand wedding ceremony of the son. Now they want his payback.
In a petition filed in a Haridwar court last week, they said, "My son has been married for the past 6 years but is not planning to have a child yet." If we had at least one grandson or granddaughter, our pain would have been much less.''
The Times of India reported that they demanded 5 crore Indian rupees as compensation! Which includes organizing a wedding ceremony in a 5-star hotel, gifting a car worth Tk 60 lakh and honeymoon expenses abroad.
50 lakh as compensation for the cost of training the son as a pilot in the US. His son returned to the country and did not join any other job.
In the petition filed in the court, they also said, “We had to take a loan to build our house. Now we are going through an economic crisis. We are also mentally disturbed to see that we have to live alone.”
Note that in India there is a tradition of several generations of members living together in joint family. But that situation is changing day by day. Many of the younger generation are choosing to live apart from their families. Young people in India are more inclined towards career than giving birth to children.
